MTY 100. Guitar Class I for Music Therapists. 1 Hour.
For music therapy majors without guitar experience. A beginning course in basic guitar techniques and music reading. Student must have a classic or acoustic guitar, case, strap and capo.
MTY 105. Guitar Class II for Music Therapists. 1 Hour.
For music therapy majors with beginning guitar experience. An intermediate course in basic guitar techniques and music reading. Student must have a classic or acoustic guitar, case, strap and capo.

MTY 200. Introduction to Music Therapy. 3 Hours.
An examination of introductory-level concepts of music therapy, including the education and clinical musicianship of a music therapist, historical development of the profession, populations served by music therapists, therapeutic treatment process, and current trends/professional issues in the field of music therapy.
MTY 205. Music Therapy Clinical Musicianship. 2 Hours.
The clinical application of voice, guitar, piano, and percussion with various populations served by music therapists, focusing on instrumental skills and evidence-based music therapy interventions.

MTY 210. Applied Music Therapy Skills. 1 Hour.
For music therapy majors without clinical guitar experience. A beginning course in basic repertoire building for musical, pre-clinical, and clinical work in music therapy.
Prerequisites: MTY 100 [Min Grade: C] and MTY 105 [Min Grade: C]
MTY 300. Psychology of Music. 3 Hours.
An examination of simple musical acoustic concepts, psychological perspectives of music, including cognition, perception, preference, creativity, physiological responses, with a focus on music learning and behavior.
Prerequisites: MTY 200 [Min Grade: C]
MTY 305. Music Therapy Research Methods. 3 Hours.
An examination of music therapy research methods related to literature review, qualitative and quantitative design, and research ethics. Students will conduct, review, and examine research data for the generalization to evidence-based practice in the field of music therapy.

MTY 310. Music Therapy Methods and Techniques I. 3 Hours.
An in-depth understanding and application of the music therapy treatment process, approaches, methods, and techniques implemented with exceptionalities of children and adults within an educational setting. Course consists of lecture, discussion, lab-based activities, and clinical field experience opportunities.

MTY 400. Music Therapy Methods and Techniques II. 3 Hours.
An in-depth understanding and application of the music therapy treatment process, approaches, methods, and techniques implemented in rehabilitation, gerontology, and wellness settings. Course consists of lecture, discussion, lab-based activities, and clinical field experience opportunities.

MTY 405. Music Therapy Methods and Techniques III. 3 Hours.
By course end, students will demonstrate a) the ability to define and apply existing music therapy methods, techniques, materials, and equipment, b) a basic knowledge of the purpose, intent and function of music therapy for various populations, and c) the understanding and apply the use of evidence-based music therapy techniques and approaches within hospice palliative care, mental health, and medical settings, and d) understand and apply strategies and techniques to develop a music therapy clinical program.
MTY 410. Music Therapy Ensemble. 1 Hour.
An application of principle and clinical musicianship within a group setting to facilitate the music therapy treatment process. Students will select, assign, and distribute parts, conduct, rehearse, and lead music and wellness opportunities with a designated population served by music therapists. Selected repertoire will support evidence-based interventions to facilitate the music therapy treatment plan. Course consists of classroom-based learning and clinical field experience opportunities. Music Therapy majors only.

MTY 415. Internship in Music Therapy. 3 Hours.
A field experience where qualified students are accepted into a clinical placement, allowing for integration of classroom-based knowledge and skills to applied population under the direct supervision of a board-certified music therapist.
